Be at one with nature on your bike. More than 400 km of signposted bike routes, gentle cycle paths and steeper trails give cyclists every opportunity to get going on their pedals. A special highlight for all bikers is a ride up to the Rettenbachferner. At 2,800 metres, it is reputed to be the highest asphalted destination in Europe. Those who want to enjoy good roads and driving conditions with fantastic views will find just what they’re looking for in Sölden. And for those who don’t want to climb quite so high, there is sure to be a suitable route.

An El Dorado for mountain biking

While people refer to other places as a “Bike Park” elsewhere, Sölden is known as a “Bike Republic”. It was founded in 2015, launching one of the most ambitious bike projects in the alps – in terms of its diversity, welcoming culture and sustainability.

Why a “nation” for bikers? Because in Sölden we do not only want to create a biking area, but also an all-encompassing bike culture where everyone feels at home.

We are also a proud part of the Sölden Bike Republic and look forward to welcoming you to our Leni Mountain apartments. As certified “Bike & Rad” accommodation with 4 “sprockets” we are here to advise you and help you out. In this respect, we provide lockable bike facilities as well as some basic tools for repairs. You can use the bike washing facilities at the apartment house, and we will also be happy to wash your clothes (against payment). Other services include a bicycle assembly stand, bicycle locks and a pump including attachments.

We will also be pleased to advise you on possible tours and chat with you about latest news from Sölden Bike Republic.

Tips for tours

Tip 1: The Teäre line

This line was created in 2015. It is 5.2 km in length and a pleasure from high to low. It starts under the midway station of the Gaislachkogelbahn cable car. This line is already something of a legend here. Plenty of bumps, a hairpin turn, a wall ride and 130 gentle bends. Difficulty level: red

Tip 2: The Ollweite line

This line starts at the mountain station of the Langeggbahn cable car. From there, it wends its way around a small lake, the ideal place to take in the breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and the nearby Rettenbach glacier. It then continues over some very rough terrain before things get flatter, and finally, a little more challenging until the tour finishes in the valley. This line is 7 km in length, although together with the connecting Ohn line and Broate line, it is actually 12 km in length.

Tip 3: The Leiterberg trail

This trail starts at the fourth hairpin bend below Hochsölden. It begins with amazing views of the Sölden valley basin. To all intents and purposes, this is a nature trail with flowing sections, which meanders beautifully through the wooded part of the Bike Republic. Guests who stay at the Leni Mountain chalet can enter the trail directly.
Difficulty level: red
Combine the Leiterberg trail with the Bartiges Bödele Trail and the Rettenbach alpine farm trail.

Tip 4: The Nene trail

Starting at the midway station of the Gaislachkogelbahn cable car, this single trail starts above the forest line before entering the woodland, where the most beautiful part of the route is located. Being pretty stony and with plenty of obstacles, it is a very challenging trail.

The “Schnitzeljagd” – the cult mountain bike event!

With a 140 mm or more spring deflection, up the hill by cable car, and down on the trails: the Schnitzeljagd, or scavenger hunt, in the Ötztal valley is the ultimate team competition for enduro bikers. Although there might not be any prize money for the competitors, there is the “Goldenes Riesenschnitzel” (giant golden schnitzel).

The Ötztal cycling marathon

The legend of the Ötztal. Every year, some 4,000 cyclists have a dream: to complete the most demanding cycling marathon in the alps. The circular course extends over 238 kilometres from Sölden via 4 alpine passes (Kühtaisattel, Brenner-, Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch) to South Tyrol and back again The competitors master an incredible 5,500 metres of altitude difference, with the fastest reaching the finishing line in a record time of just over seven hours.
